Role Overview

The Senior Manager – Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functioning of container terminal operations. This role provides leadership and direction to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while delivering superior service to our customers. The incumbent will drive operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement, while leading and developing a team of managers and frontline staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily terminal operations to achieve maximum productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with all HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) policies, procedures, and international maritime regulations.
  • Lead vessel planning, berthing, and sailing schedules in coordination with marine operations, liner agents, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain service levels as per international benchmarks and contractual commitments, with zero tolerance for service failures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost optimization (TCO).
  • Collaborate with shipping lines, customs, trucking companies, and statutory authorities to ensure smooth cargo handling and customer experience.
  • Monitor and measure operational KPIs (e.g., vessel turnaround time, yard productivity, equipment utilization) to ensure alignment with business plans.
  • Build and develop the operations team through coaching, training, and performance management, ensuring future readiness.
  • Enforce safe working practices to achieve a zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) environment.
  • Support the implementation of digital tools, automation, and new technologies in terminal operations.

Key Requirements

  • 10–15 years of experience in terminal operations, port management, logistics, or related industries.
  • Proven leadership in managing large-scale operations with P&L or KPI accountability.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across customers, authorities, and internal teams.
  • Deep knowledge of container terminal processes, safety standards, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to lead and inspire diverse teams while driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
