Section Engineer - Process Lab (Pellet Plant)

Critical Responsibilities:

A. Process Control and Improvement

• Establishing and maintaining Process laboratory for Iron ore pellet plants


• Conducting suitability tests on raw materials, Fluxes, Energy fuels, and Binders


• Ensuring standard sampling and sample preparation practices as per IS/ASTM/ISO.


• Performing physical and chemical analysis by using wet classical and instrumental methods.


• Ensure compliance with SOPs and laboratory work instructions in line with Integrated Management Systems.


• Investigating deviations and initiating corrective actions.


• Directing laboratory staff and ensuring quality of work.


• Planning and troubleshooting to ensure availability and reliability of lab instruments.


• R ecord, analyse, and distribute statistical information to all concerned.


• Ensure timely in process sample collection, analysis, preservation, and result reporting.


• Plan annual consumption of chemicals, glassware, spares, and lab instrument and equipment.


• Advising timely procurement to maintain adequate stock levels.


• Managing internal and external calibrations of lab instruments.


• Reviewing subordinate performance and implementing company policies.


• Providing training and development in safety, technology, and SOP updates.

B.PROCESS MANAGEMENT

• Effective utilization of lab staff by making them multi-skilled.


• Introducing auto-sampling units to minimize sampling errors and improve data reliability.


• Technical justification and procurement of laboratory instruments and equipment.


• Preparation of PowerPoint presentations on monthly and annual plant performance.


• Organising R&D activities like simulation of green balling studies in laboratory and Indurating process for Pellet quality improvement (e.g., pot grate tests and basket tests).


• Exposure to Pyro-metallurgical tests required for processes like HBI/DRI and Blast furnaces

C. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

• Ensure laboratory operations comply with safety SOPs and work instructions in line with Integrated Management System.


• Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals and laboratory equipment.


• Ensure compliance with environmental standards during lab operations and process control


• Behavioral based safety awareness, permit systems, safety culture building

D. Training and Development

• Provide training and development in the areas of safety, technology, and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).


• Motivate laboratory staff and ensured quality of work through effective leadership.


• Periodical Review of Lab staff s performance and update company policies and goals.


• Promote multi-skilling among lab staff for effective utilization.


• Encourage continuous learning and improvement within the team.


• Participate in R&D activities, contributing to knowledge transfer and technical upskilling

Relevant Experience:

• Minimum 4 years of experience in Pellet Plant process laboratory industry and 2 years in R&D on Iron making Process improvement role.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Pelletization & Beneficiation Process


• Exposure in Beneficiation and Pellet plants, will be added advantage.


• Exposure in Pyro-metallurgical properties


• Exposure in instruments like WDXRF, PSA, Automatic CCS machine, Carbon & Sulphur analyzer and Zwick-Roell Blaine apparatus.
