Scala Engineer

The DAS Lab – Insurance & Markets team within the Finance Data & Analytics Office (FDAO) is focused on supporting data processing and transformation for the Insurance, Pensions & Investments business.

The DAS Lab – Insurance & Markets team within FDAO is seeking a Scala engineer to support data processing and transformation for reporting across the Insurance, Pensions & Investments business. The role involves hands-on development using Scala and Apache Spark, with a focus on migrating the Annuities platform to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Collaboration with actuarial and accounting teams is key to delivering technical solutions in an Agile environment.

• Support data processing and transformation efforts tied to reporting across Insurance
• Pensions & Investments business
• Contribute to incremental enhancements on existing applications
• Work with actuarial and accounting colleagues to deliver technical solutions
• Coordinate and work on own initiative
• Investigate and resolve live incidents and issues

• Degree in Computer Science
• Software Engineering
• or equivalent experience
• Strong technical expertise in big data processing using Apache Spark
• Hands-on experience developing applications in Scala and other JVM-based languages
• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tools
• Working knowledge of Python and SQL

Experience delivering solutions on Google Cloud Platform particularly with services like DataProc, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, GKE, and GCS.

Exposure to the Financial Services industry, especially Insurance datasets, with bonus points for regulatory reporting. Ability to deal with stakeholders and developers clearly and effectively.
