Scala Engineer

As a Scala Engineer at our company, you will be responsible for supporting data processing and transformation efforts tied to reporting across our Insurance, Pensions & Investments (IP&I) business. You will primarily work on applications built in Scala using the Spark framework and contribute to the migration of our Annuities platform to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your role will involve incremental enhancements on existing applications, working within Agile methodologies (Scrum and/or Kanban), and collaborating with actuarial and accounting colleagues to deliver technical solutions to financial business problems. Your contribution plays a crucial role in Helping Britain Prosper. Key Responsibilities: - Develop applications in Scala and other JVM-based languages for big data processing using Apache Spark - Implement robust unit testing practices using tools like ScalaTest - Utilize DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Git, Nexus, and Harness - Have working knowledge of Python and SQL for data investigation and profiling - Deliver solutions on Google Cloud Platform, particularly utilizing services like DataProc, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, GKE, and GCS - Coordinate and work independently with excellent communication skills to engage with stakeholders and developers effectively - React promptly to investigate and resolve live incidents, manage stakeholder expectations, and address impacts to ongoing work Qualifications Required: - Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience - Strong technical expertise in big data processing using Apache Spark - Hands-on experience in developing applications in Scala and other JVM-based languages - Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Git, Nexus, and Harness - Working knowledge of Python and SQL for data investigation and profiling - Experience with Google Cloud Platform services like DataProc, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, GKE, and GCS - Exposure to the Financial Services industry, especially Insurance datasets, with bonus points for regulatory reporting - Ability to work within Agile methodologies and coordinate effectively with stakeholders and developers - Experience with GitOps, IDP, Backstage, JIRA/Confluence, Service Now, and Agile methodologies would be advantageous (Note: Any additional details of the company are not mentioned in the provided job description.),
