Job Description

Safety Officer

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Policy Implementation

  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure all departments adhere to organisational safety standards.

2. Safety Audits & Inspections

  • Conduct routine site inspections and internal safety audits.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, practices, and potential hazards, and recommend corrective measures.

3. Safety Program Development

  • Collaborate with department heads and senior leadership to design and execute safety programs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in operational safety.

4. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees and contractors on topics such as hazard identification, emergency response, PPE usage, and safe work practices.
  • Promote awareness through campaigns, toolbox talks, and refresher sessions.

5. Incident Investigation

  • Lead investigations for workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA).

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, safety audits, inspections, and training activities.
  • Prepare compliance reports and safety performance updates for management.

7. Regulatory Compliance

  • Stay updated with safety laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., IS 14489, OSHA, and local legislation).
  • Ensure all operations meet mandatory compliance requirements.

8. Collaboration & Committees

  • Participate in safety committee meetings and work closely with cross-functional teams to drive safety initiatives.
  • Support the development of a proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Required Certifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)

  • ADIS (Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety)

  • Any additional recognised safety certificate will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • 48 years

    of professional experience in a Safety Officer or Safety Engineering role, preferably in construction, engineering, or industrial environments.
  • Proven experience in implementing and monitoring safety programs at industrial or construction sites.
  • Strong background in risk assessment, safety audits, and regulatory compliance.

Key Skills

  • Deep knowledge of safety regulations, standards (IS 14489, OSHA), and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for training and engaging with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and act effectively during emergencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to hazard identification.
  • Proficiency with safety management software, inspection tools, and digital reporting platforms.
  • Ability to work under pressure
