Job Description

Job Titel - Rubber Technologist

Job Purpose:

To formulate, test, and optimize rubber compounds used in the manufacture of thermal and acoustic insulation products, ensuring compliance with performance, cost, processability, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Formulation & Development:

  • Develop rubber-based formulations suitable for insulation applications with low thermal conductivity, high flexibility, flame resistance, and long-term durability.
  • Work with elastomers such as EPDM, NBR, and other suitable polymers used in closed-cell foam insulation.
  • Select and optimize use of blowing agents, flame retardants, fillers, plasticizers, and curing systems.
  • Modify and improve existing recipes for performance enhancement or cost reduction.

Testing & Quality Control:

  • Conduct physical, mechanical, and thermal testing (density, compression set, thermal conductivity, flammability, elongation, etc.).
  • Ensure that rubber insulation sheets, tubes, and rolls meet technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Implement lab-scale trials before commercial production and validate performance under simulated usage conditions.

Process Support:

  • Coordinate with production for successful scale-up of new formulations in the plant.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in compounding, extrusion, curing, and foaming stages.
  • Optimize processing parameters to reduce waste and ensure consistent product quality.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and maintain formulation records, test reports, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable fire safety standards (e.g., UL 94, BS 476), environmental norms (REACH, RoHS), and industry certifications.
  • Support documentation needed for customer audits or third-party certifications.

Innovation & Industry Monitoring:

  • Track latest developments in rubber insulation materials, flame retardant systems, and sustainability trends.
  • Evaluate alternate raw materials for cost savings, environmental compliance, or performance improvement.
  • Participate in new product development for specialized applications (e.g., HVAC, refrigeration, marine insulation).

Qualifications:

  • B.Tech / M.Tech in Rubber Technology / Polymer Science / Chemical Engineering.
  • 38 years of experience in formulation and processing of rubber compounds for insulation or related foam products.

Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of elastomeric foam insulation materials and compounding.
  • Familiarity with extrusion, vulcanization, and foaming processes.
  • Proficiency in lab testing, equipment such as Rheometer, DSC, TGA, and flame test apparatus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Effective team player with good communication and coordination ability.
