Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients' respiratory conditions by reviewing medical history and performing physical assessments.
- Administer oxygen therapy and aerosolized medication treatments as prescribed.
- Manage ventilators and artificial airway devices effectively.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory care practices and home management strategies.
- Monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatments based on their clinical status.
- Perform arterial blood gas analysis and interpret results accurately.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Conduct pulmonary function tests to assess lung capacity and function.
- Provide emergency respiratory care during critical situations.
- Maintain patient records and document treatment plans in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Ensure the proper use and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in respiratory therapy and best practices.
- Participate in patient rounds and contribute to interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Offer support and counseling to patients coping with respiratory illness.
Required Qualifications
- A Doctor of Respiratory Therapy or a related field preferred.
- State licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory care protocols and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and handle emergencies.
- Proficiency in using respiratory therapy equipment and monitoring devices.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional development.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of safety and infection control regulations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
