Role DescriptionThe Department of Mathematics at the University of York is a vibrant community of mathematicians with a wide range of research interests.RoleThe department of Mathematics invites applications for a Research Associate to join the research team working on the EPSRC grant “Basis Reduction for Structured Lattices With Applications to Post-Quantum Cryptography”.We are seeking a candidate with expertise in number theory (especially in the field of metric Diophantine approximation and/or algebraic number theory) and, simultaneously, expertise in functional analysis and probability theory.The ideal candidate will have some postgraduate research experience and published papers in peer-reviewed journals across its fields of expertise. Some experience in teaching also would be a benefit.The role is fixed-term for up to three years.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed

Candidates will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant area of Mathematics. An ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical background and experience in working within at least one of the research areas relevant to the project. In brief candidates will have:
  • PhD in Mathematics or equivalent degree or experience
  • Research expertise in fields of Number Theory, Probability and Functional Analysis
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
  • Competence to conduct individual and collaborative research projects
  • Competence to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events
