We take great pride in holding the Athena Swan Gold Award.The role is based in the Department of Psychology and at the York NeuroImaging Centre.RoleWe are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate to join Professor Beth Jefferies’s research group, to work on a project funded by the European Research Council called STROKEGRAD. This project is using gradient decomposition of functional connectivity patterns to predict long-term language impairments and recovery in people with aphasia following stroke. We are working with previously-collected large datasets of stroke survivors that contain structural and resting-state fMRI plus neuropsychological test scores examining language and cognition. The post holder will be responsible for data processing/analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings, including by writing talks and giving conference presentations. There may be a requirement to give talks to stroke groups and to interact with speech therapists. The post holder will also work as part of a team with other members of the FLEXSEM lab to support wider activities of the research group.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed

• A knowledge of resting-state fMRI analysis and an ability to use complex novel analysis approaches is essential.
• Experience of gradient decomposition approaches is essential given the short timeframe of this appointment.
• A PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience is desirable.
• An interest in language and/or semantics, aphasia and large-scale brain organisation is also desirable.
