Quality Engineer /CMM Operator

The Mitutoyo 9106 CMM Operator is responsible for operating and programming the Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex V 9106 Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to perform precise dimensional inspections of machined components, assemblies, and parts. This role ensures that products meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The operator will work in a manufacturing or precision engineering environment, utilizing MCOSMOS software for programming and data analysis to support production quality control and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, calibrate, and operate the Mitutoyo 9106 CMM to conduct dimensional inspections on parts, including first article inspections (FAI), in-process checks, and final verifications.
• Program CMM routines using MCOSMOS software based on blueprints, CAD models, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection plans to determine measurement requirements and tolerances.
• Perform accurate measurements of complex geometries, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and internal quality protocols.
• Analyze inspection data, generate reports (e.g., FAIR reports), and identify non-conformances, recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain the CMM equipment, including routine cleaning, probe calibration, and troubleshooting minor issues to ensure optimal performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve measurement discrepancies and improve processes.
• Document inspection results in quality management systems and maintain accurate records for traceability.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including proper handling of parts and equipment, and participate in continuous training on metrology best practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education

  : High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in metrology, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred.

• Experience

  : Minimum 2-3 years of experience operating CMMs, with specific hands-on experience using Mitutoyo CMMs (Crysta-Apex series preferred) and MCOSMOS software.

• Technical Skills

  :
• Proficiency in GD&T principles (ASME Y14.5 standards).
• Strong knowledge of precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, and technical specifications.
• Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 or API Q1
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office for reporting.
