QA & QC Manager/Quality Head - Plastic Packaging Industry

1. Role Summary

The QA & QC Manager/Quality Head will lead the entire Quality function, ensuring that all plastic packaging products meet customer specifications, statutory requirements, and internal quality standards. The role involves developing quality systems, overseeing inspections & testing, managing customer complaints, and driving continual improvement across the plant.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Quality Assurance (QA)

• Develop, implement, and maintain

  Quality Management Systems (QMS)

  as per ISO 9001 / ISO 22000 / BRC Packaging (as applicable).
• Prepare and update

  SOPs, Work Instructions, Quality Plans, and Control Plans

  .
• Manage internal audits, document control, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  
• Conduct process capability studies for molding, extrusion, and printing processes.
  
• Validate new molds, machines, products, and materials using qualification protocols.
  
• Ensure supplier quality assurance and conduct vendor audits.
  

B. Quality Control (QC)

• Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection for all plastic packaging products.
  
• Monitor QC tests such as:
  

• Wall thickness, weight, dimensions

• Drop test, stack load test, top-load test

• Leakage test, burst test, pressure test

• Visual inspection for flash, short shot, black spots, warpage, bubbles, pinholes

• MFI test, density test, moisture content

• Ensure calibration of all measuring & testing equipment.
  
• Maintain daily QC records, COA, and product traceability.
  

C. Customer Quality & Complaints Management

• Handle customer quality complaints and implement

  CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Actions)

  .
• Work closely with the Sales/Marketing team for technical support to customers.
  
• Conduct root cause analysis using

  5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, FMEA

  .

D. Process Improvement & Cost Reduction

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives: Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma (if applicable).
  
• Reduce rejections, rework, wastage, and improve process stability.
  
• Drive quality culture across production teams.
  

E. Team Management

• Lead QC inspectors, lab technicians, and QA executives.
  
• Conduct training on GMP, hygiene, visual defects, and quality standards.
  
• Evaluate team performance and ensure effective shift operation support.
  

3. Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of

  plastic processing (Injection, Blow, Extrusion, Thermoforming)

  .
• Expertise in

  quality tools

  SPC, MSA, CAPA, RCA, FMEA.
• Familiarity with

  ISO 9001, HACCP, BRC Packaging

  , or other quality standards.
• Good analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  
• Ability to manage customers and lead audits.
  
• Hands-on experience with quality testing instruments.
  

4. Educational Qualifications

• B.Tech / B.E. in

  Plastic Engineering/Polymer Science/Mechanical Engineering

  OR

  Diploma in Plastic Technology with extensive experience.
• Additional certifications in

  Quality Management/ISO/Internal Auditor

  preferred.

5. Experience Required

• 8–15 years

  in Quality roles within the

  plastic packaging industry

  .
• Minimum

  3–5 years

  in a managerial or leadership position.
• Experience handling FMCG, Food & Beverage, Pharma packaging customers is an advantage.
