These schools are located in Bidar and Raichur districts of Karnataka. For this evaluation, the researchers will collaborate with Mantra4Change, who will implement the project in the field. The Principal Investigators on this project are Todd Pugatch (University of Buffalo), Ketki Sheth (University of Tennessee), and Emmanuel Rukundo (RWI Leibniz Institute for Economic Research). Key Responsibilities Research Associates work closely with academic researchers and field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: Designing and developing survey questionnaires, running pilot exercises, refining study design and survey instruments Supporting and informing qualitative research Managing field teams across multiple districts: recruiting, training, and supervising both field-based and data operations teams consisting of project assistants, field managers, field-based surveyors, data entry operators, and other field and office staff Supervising data collection and data entry, and ensuring data quality and productivity Overseeing the entire data collection process, and ensuring compliance with J-PALs standards for data quality Writing high-quality documents, including training manuals, process reports and reports of results from different rounds of data collection Assisting with data cleaning, preliminary data analysis, and preparation of documents and presentations for dissemination Ensuring the project follows the agreed timeline and meets key milestones with the support of the Research Manager Assisting with applications to local and international institutional review boards with the support of the Research Manager Ensuring the implementation of the evaluation in accordance to the research design in association with the partner organization Maintaining relationships with partner organisation at both headquarters and field levels Reporting to the Research Manager and PIs on all of the activities mentioned above Maintaining compliance with all J-PAL protocols and policies Addressing any other task assigned by the Research Manager, AD Research or ED Desired Qualifications Bachelor's/Masters degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, education or related fields Experience living and working in a developing country is a strong plus Fluency and excellent communication skills in English Fluency in Kannada is highly preferred Knowledge of Stata and SurveyCTO (strongly preferred) or other data analysis/collection software; strong quantitative skills Familiarity with randomized controlled trials/clinical trials/quasi-experiments or primary data collection preferred Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, team player Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations Good team management skills Ability to deal with unstructured and changing environments Ability to work independently

Though Pratham and J-PAL enjoy a long-term partnership, this will be the first instance of an evaluation of Prathams ECE program. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a strong understanding of issues relating to ECE, a sector that is increasingly attracting a lot of attention from researchers, policy makers and implementers. Prathams early childhood education programs cater to ages 3 to 8. Programs range from support to anganwadis, encouraging mothers involvement in childrens education and formal classroom activities in schools and communities. A key objective of this evaluation is to understand what works in terms of ECE program delivery and the ideal duration of an ECE program. Additionally, the researchers also aim to evaluate a home-based Math Games programs which is built on previous research on Math Games in schools. Math Games is an innovative math curriculum that aims to develop children's intuitive concepts of number and geometry, informed by decades of cognitive development research, and Research Associate Roles and Responsibilities: The RA will work closely with academic researchers, Research Manager and other field staff to perform a variety tasks including, but not limited to: Designing survey questionnaires, conducting qualitative research, running pilot exercises, refining study design and surveying instruments. Data analysis and synthesis Liaising with members of the project team by sending them statistics as and when required Generating aggregated views of the data for various stakeholders the Principal Investigators, donors and other partners. We are seeking a Research Manager to oversee a portfolio of three research projects. Two field-based projects explore the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing judicial and bureaucratic state capacity in India. The third project is building a harmonized data repository of Indian firm and household microdata. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing pioneering projects at the forefront of economics research and public policy. Key responsibilities include contributing to the design and implementation of assigned projects, leading stakeholder engagement, mentoring and supervising the research team, managing budgeting and operational tasks, overseeing reporting processes, and handling contracts and grants management. We are looking for a proactive individual with proven management experience and familiarity with applied economics research and capable of working with multiple stakeholders to achieve project objectives. The candidate should be prepared to thrive in a dynamic organizational environment and demonstrate high levels of integrity and commitment to our work. The successful candidate will join a team of Principal Investigators (PIs) and Research Assistants (RAs). Project 1: Artificial Intelligence, Government Litigation, and Bureaucratic Decision Making PIs: Daron Acemoglu (MIT), Ananya Kotia (LSE), Utkarsh Saxena (Oxford) Working with Indian government agencies, this project studies whether artificial intelligence tools can be used to reduce inefficiencies caused by excessive government-initiated tax litigation in India. Project 2: Artificial Intelligence and Judicial State Capacity PIs: Ananya Kotia (LSE), Utkarsh Saxena (Oxford) This project seeks to address India's substantial judicial backlog of over 50 million cases by evaluating the impact of integrating AI-driven tools like transcription, translation, OCR scanning, and case flow management software in courtrooms in a large Indian state. The intervention aims to test the impact of such tools on case resolution times and judicial decision-making. Project 3: India Data Lab PIs: Ananya Kotia (LSE) The India Data Lab (IDL) is an initiative to harmonize unit-level microdata from India's key household and firm surveys, specifically the National Sample Surveys (NSS) and the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI). In collaboration with LSE, IGC, and NITI Aayog, the IDL will integrate these datasets into the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP). By cleaning and standardizing these complex datasets into a single, analysis-ready repository, the IDL aims to significantly streamline research efforts and enhance empirical studies on India's economy. Qualifications Master's degree in Economics (or bachelor's degree with relevant work experience). At least three years of relevant work experience Experience in managing randomized controlled trials is required. Knowledge of Stata (or any other statistical tool) is required. Ability to work in a team, manage multiple projects on the ground, and be self-motivated.
