PRODUCT ENGINEER_IP (Intellectual Property)
Data Center BU
Product Engineering of Copper connectivity and Fiber Optic Connectivity products/solutions.
(Cable assemblies, modules, boxes, Closures and accessories etc. )
To understand and evaluate the intellectual property claims around the product being designed, deliberation of the claims with relevant team members to find suitable solution to mitigate the risk of incumbent IP claims.

(Key Responsibilities)
Design and Product Development Engineering activity of
1. Complete ownership of IP review of the assigned product/solution development activity from concept up to product realisation.
2. Work with IP team to support patent strategy, licensing, and dispute resolution.
3. Detailed study and ratification of all potential IP claims identified by the IP team with potential risk of violation.
4. Identification of critical differentiating factors which make the current design under review potentially protected from existing IP claims.
5. Work with the design/ development, IP and manufacturing teams to make them aware of breadth and depth of existing claims.
6. Collaborate with R&D engineers to identify innovative features and strengthen IP filings.
7. Support business/product teams in assessing risks related to competitor patents.
8. Active participation in product design discussions to bring potential risk areas, review the design proposals in the purview of the preexisting claims.
9. Innovating new ideas and concepts of connectivity in both copper and optical domain and converting into a workable product solution with securing the intellectual property rights for the company with the support of the IP team.

1. Detailed understanding of the connectors and connection methods in both copper and optical fiber connectivity.
2. Application of different types of connectors and related products.
3. Understanding of various standards relating to structured cabling TIA/EIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801.
4. Understand the different type of product categories like CAT6, CAT6A, U/UTP, STP, S/FTP.
5. Familiarity with connector designs: RJ45, keystone jacks, patch panels, modular plugs.
6. Understanding of electrical performance parameters like, Insertion loss, return loss, cross talk, alien cross talk and other related parameters.
7. Awareness of termination techniques (IDC, crimping, tool-less designs).
8. Understanding of standards relating to optical fiber connectivity, IEC, TIA, IEEE
9. Familiarity with connector types: LC, SC, MPO/MTP, MMC, MDC, SN, SNMT, Uniboot LC etc.
10. Understanding of fiber polarity methods (Type A, B, C, Base-8/12/16/24 &32).
11. Understanding of optical performance parameters: insertion loss, return loss, reflectance, end-face geometry.
12. Understanding of field termination methods: fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, field-polishable connectors
13. Strong mechanical and materials understanding (plastics, metals, plating, optical ferrules).
14. Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection molding, precision machining, fiber polishing).
15. Working knowledge of various type of molding concepts, mold tool and related aspects of mold tool development.
16. Ability to read and interpret patent documents (claims, drawings, prior art references).
17. Ability to map technical features of products to patent claims.
18. Communication skills to explain IP risks/strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
19. Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
20. Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple IP projects simultaneously.
21. Hands on with the desktop publishing software like MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Word.
22. Good command over English language in both spoken and written forms.

Minimum Qualifications & Critical Exposure to Perform the Job at the Optimum Level
Bachelor or Masters Degree in Engineering or Technology in Mechanical Engineering with 8 to 10yrs of domain experience.
CRITICAL SKILLS: Strong understanding of connection technology and connectivity solutions in communication domain.
