Job Description:
- Content Planning & Development:
- Collaborate with reporters, journalists, and anchors to select and develop news stories for the broadcast.
- Write and edit scripts for news segments, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and proper tone.
- Prioritize stories and determine the order in which they will appear in the broadcast.
- Research breaking news and work with editorial teams to verify information.
- Show Production:
- Coordinate with technical teams (camera, audio, graphics, etc.) to ensure smooth production and proper visual storytelling.
- Oversee live broadcasts, managing timing, transitions, and content flow.
- Monitor live feeds and adjust the programming as necessary in response to breaking news or unforeseen changes.
- Manage the execution of special segments, reports, or features as needed.
- Team Management & Coordination:
- Supervise and guide news crews, including reporters, cameramen, and editors.
- Ensure that all news pieces meet the editorial standards and timelines.
- Coordinate logistics for field reporting, including arranging travel and ensuring equipment is available.
- Work closely with directors, editors, and technical staff to facilitate smooth transitions and high-quality content.
- Breaking News & Crisis Management:
- Be prepared to handle breaking news stories and adjust programming accordingly.
- Make quick decisions about the content and direction of the broadcast when new developments emerge.
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information presented, especially during fast-paced or emergency situations.
- Broadcast Quality Control:
- Ensure that all segments are formatted according to the station's standards and are ready for broadcast.
- Oversee the final editing of stories, ensuring they meet editorial and technical quality.
- Work with graphics and visual teams to incorporate visual aids (e.g., infographics, maps) into the broadcast.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Maintain constant communication with anchors, reporters, and field producers to ensure everyone is aligned.
- Work with the news desk, assignment editors, and reporters to identify and track emerging stories.
- Regularly attend editorial meetings to review story ideas, editorial focus, and key developments.
- Compliance & Ethical Standards:
- Ensure that all content adheres to the channel's ethical guidelines and legal regulations.
- Ensure fair and balanced reporting, avoiding conflicts of interest and bias.
- Maintain journalistic integrity, particularly when dealing with sensitive or controversial topics.
- Audience Engagement:
- Collaborate with social media teams to ensure key stories are shared online and engage with the audience.
- Ensure that the broadcast aligns with the target audience’s expectations, maintaining high viewer engagement.
- Administrative & Logistical Support:
- Maintain schedules for news teams, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are efficiently allocated.
- Prepare production budgets and manage resources effectively.
- Assist with recruiting, training, and mentoring new staff members.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in news production, journalism, or broadcasting (typically 3-5 years).
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with broadcast equipment, editing software (e.g., Avid, Adobe Premiere), and newsroom automation systems.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively coordinate with diverse teams, especially under tight deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in news coverage, script writing, and broadcast timing.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think on your feet and manage unexpected challenges.
- Leadership: Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage teams and ensure high-quality content.
Working Conditions:
- Typically work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Work may be required during breaking news events or emergency situations, demanding flexibility and responsiveness.
Career Path:
