Description WSP is currently seeking a passionate Principal Engineer - Mechanical to join our Water & Wastewater team. This position will be responsible for working on Water & Wastewater projects, specifically Mechanical design for treatment plants, Pump stations and Pipelines. The ideal candidate should also have familiarity and understanding of other disciplines, such as Civil, Electrical, Geotechnical and structural engineering, and how the various disciplines relate to one another in a multidisciplinary project. The candidate will be required to manage projects and team personnel and should be able to work and communicate effectively with senior management, peers and team members. Responsibilities: Carryout engineering and design of Mechanical scope of water and wastewater projects including but not limited to pumping stations, treatment facilities, conveyance systems, etc. on both green field and upgrade/refurbishment projects. Candidate must utilize expertise in general Mechanical designs and demonstrate ability to originate work by self as well as review and refine work done by others. Candidate must demonstrate good communication skills and be able to prepare reports. Manage a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers, CAD & BIM technicians and provide technical guidance as necessary regarding mechanical systems on W&WW projects. Work in a diverse environment and be able to demonstrate best practice in project delivery; be familiar with relevant international standards/guidelines. Exposure to Canadian water and wastewater sector is an advantage. Being proactive to identify resolve issues early on through effective coordination and communication with stakeholders. Knowledge of project management functions including progress monitoring, scope/quality & risk management is an advantage. Perform other duties as assigned. Key Competencies / Skills: Mandatory Skills Minimum 15 years of Mechanical Engineering experience. Out of which at least 10 years should be in design and engineering of Water & Wastewater systems and components. Possess knowledge to develop and work on P&IDs, treatment process trains, equipment selection, etc. Be aware of check/review process and verify project deliverables for compliance to specifications/requirements in terms of completeness, accuracy and quality. Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Possess analytical skills (data collection, compilation and analysis), and present the work in a well sequenced flow including reports, calculations, etc. Possess good communication skills (verbal and written) – including technical report writing. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel tools for engineering calculations; ability to work on MathCAD will be an advantage. Desired Skills Participates in constructability / HAZOP reviews as part of an integrated project delivery. Knowledge of Revit and Civil 3D or MicroStation would be advantageous. Knowledge of Bentley (or similar) tools for design/analysis for water/wastewater systems will be an advantage. Knowledge of process to achieve technical Excellence in project delivery.
