About The Opportunity
We are hiring an on-site Optometrist for our Triplicane, Chennai clinic to provide comprehensive eye care, spectacle dispensing, and contact lens services. This role suits patient-focused clinicians who excel at refraction, ocular screening, and delivering clear recommendations that drive patient satisfaction and repeat visits.Role & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations including objective and subjective refraction, retinoscopy, and binocular vision assessments to determine appropriate prescriptions.
- Conduct anterior segment evaluation using slit lamp, perform basic tonometry and fundus screening to identify common ocular conditions and refer to ophthalmology when required.
- Fit and educate patients on contact lenses (soft, toric, disposable), handle trials, aftercare, and troubleshoot contact lens-related issues.
- Manage spectacle dispensing end-to-end: frame selection, lens recommendations (single vision, bifocal, progressive), measurement, and final quality checks to ensure accurate vision outcomes.
- Maintain accurate patient records in EMR, prepare referral notes for specialist care, and ensure compliance with clinic SOPs and infection-control protocols.
- Deliver empathetic patient counselling on visual hygiene, workplace ergonomics, and preventive eye-care; collaborate with support staff to optimise clinic throughput and customer experience.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have
- Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) or equivalent clinical optometry qualification recognised in India + valid registration/licence if applicable.
- 1–4 years of hands-on clinical experience in refraction, slit-lamp examination, contact lens fitting and spectacle dispensing—ideally in a retail-clinic or hospital outpatient setting.
- Strong practical skills in retinoscopy, subjective refraction, basic tonometry, and anterior segment screening.
- Proficient with EMR or clinic software, accurate record-keeping, and familiarity with standard operating procedures for infection control.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills in English; local language (Tamil) proficiency preferred for Triplicane patient base.
Preferred
- Experience with paediatric vision screening, low-vision support, or specialty lens fitting (multifocal/toric/progressive).
- Prior experience in high-volume retail optical chains or multi-doctor clinics with strong focus on sales collaboration and customer satisfaction metrics.
