Job Description

About Woods At Sasan

Set within 16 acres of untouched wilderness and mango orchards in Gir, Woods At Sasan is India’s first biophilic retreat — a sanctuary where nature, design, and mindful hospitality come together. As part of 1000 Island Hotels & Resorts, we embody the philosophy of “Sustainably Luxurious, Mindfully Modern.”

Here, every role goes beyond routine, it’s about creating deeper connections between people, nature, and culture.

Overview:

Naturalist

You’ll lead nature walks, wildlife experiences, and conservation-led interactions that celebrate the biodiversity around us. Your role blends education, exploration, and immersion, helping guests experience the forest with curiosity, care, and respect.

You’ll curate experiences that aren’t just informative, but soulful reflecting the retreat’s ethos of mindful living and conscious travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead guided nature trails, birdwatching tours, and wildlife experiences that highlight the flora, fauna, and ecology of Gir.
  • Share knowledge in a way that’s engaging, accurate, and rooted in conservation.
  • Collaborate with the Experience and Front Office teams to plan guest itineraries and tailor activities based on interests and sensitivity levels.
  • Ensure all outdoor experiences follow safety, sustainability, and ethical wildlife-viewing practices.
  • Maintain updated knowledge on local biodiversity, seasonal changes, and ecological behaviour.
  • Contribute to in-house nature education, workshops, and awareness sessions for both guests and staff.
  • Assist in creating content or interpretive material that celebrates the region’s natural heritage.
  • Be an ambassador of Woods At Sasan’s environmental values at all times.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, Forestry, Ecology, or similar fields (preferred).
  • 1–3 years of experience as a naturalist, wildlife guide, or nature educator — ideally in eco-lodges, forest camps, or boutique nature retreats.
  • Strong knowledge of local wildlife, bird species, and regional ecology.
  • Confident communication and storytelling skills with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Passion for conservation and responsible tourism.
  • Comfortable navigating forest environments and leading outdoor activities.
  • Calm, patient, and guest-friendly — especially during wildlife sightings or unexpected nature-related situations.

We Offer

  • A deeply nature-connected work environment inside Gujarat’s most biodiverse landscape.
  • Learning opportunities across ecology, conservation, and mindful-luxury hospitality.
  • A supportive, purpose-driven culture that values creativity, balance, and slow living.
  • Growth pathways within the 1000 Island Hotels & Resorts ecosystem.
