Medical Underwriter

As a Medical Underwriter at our company, you will play a crucial role in evaluating complex medical and non-medical data to assess risk and make informed insurance decisions. Your responsibilities will directly impact our business by determining the eligibility, coverage amount, and premium rates for applicants, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and compliance in all decisions. Key Responsibilities: - Thoroughly review insurance applications, detailed medical reports, health records, and diagnostic tests. - Quantify the degree of medical risk associated with applicants to determine their insurability. - Classify applications and recommend approval, modification (e.g., rate-up), or decline based on underwriting guidelines. - Communicate professionally with medical professionals, agents, and internal departments to gather necessary information. - Ensure all underwriting decisions align with company policies, legal regulations, and risk management principles. - Maintain detailed and accurate underwriting records and documentation. - Stay updated on medical and insurance industry developments to enhance processes and risk assessment tools. Qualifications & Skills: Education: - Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, or a related analytical field. - Preferred: Professional Certification in underwriting or insurance (LOMA, ALU, etc.). Experience: - Proven experience in life or health insurance underwriting is required. - Preferred: 3 years of dedicated experience in medical underwriting. - Strong understanding of risk assessment principles, policy terms, and claims processes. Core Skills: - Exceptional analytical and decision-making abilities. - High attention to detail and data accuracy. - Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills. - Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with insurance software tools.
