Managing Editor

As an experienced and detail-oriented Managing Editor responsible for leading a reputed Chennai-based School Group Publication Division editorial team, your main focus will be on planning, developing, and producing school textbooks and learning materials (K-12). It is crucial for you to maintain a balance of content leadership, editorial management, project oversight, and quality control to ensure that all educational materials meet curriculum standards, market needs, and brand guidelines. - Lead and manage the editorial development of school textbooks, workbooks, teacher guides, and digital resources across various subjects (CBSE & State Boards). - Supervise a team of editors, proofreaders, content developers, and freelance contributors. - Collaborate with authors, subject matter experts, designers, illustrators, and production teams to ensure timely delivery of quality content. - Develop and maintain editorial calendars, project plans, and budgets for multiple simultaneous projects. - Ensure all content aligns with curriculum frameworks, pedagogical standards, and educational policies. - Implement and monitor editorial guidelines, content quality checks, and copy-editing standards. - Manage content revision, reprint process, content digitization, and e-learning content adaptation. - Coordinate content rights, permissions, and copyright compliance. - Lead training programs for internal editors and external writers to ensure content quality consistency. Qualifications required: - Bachelors/Masters degree in English, Education, Publishing, Journalism, or related fields. - 8-12 years of relevant experience in educational publishing, with at least 3-5 years in a senior editorial role. - Proven experience in managing school textbook projects (preferably K-12) from concept to publication. - Strong command of language, grammar, and instructional design principles. - Familiarity with national education boards (CBSE & State Boards) and current education trends. - Experience with digital content creation and adaptation for online learning platforms. - Excellent leadership, team management, and project management skills. - Proficiency in publishing tools like InDesign, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and content management systems. Desirable skills: - Experience with digital-first publishing strategies. - Familiarity with interactive content formats (SCORM, HTML5). - Knowledge of regional languages or bilingual publishing. - Exposure to AI-driven content editing tools.
