About the role

At The Ken, we’ve prided ourselves on being a flat newsroom. This has been integral to our being nimble and telling the kind of stories that mainstream news organisations can’t, or won’t, pursue. But in our tenth year, as we set out to redefine business journalism in newer ways, we are deviating from the old structure to add a role we have never had before: Managing Editor. It’s a leadership position in Bengaluru, where we are headquartered.

You’ll working with editorial leadership to improve, expand, and drive our strategy for business, economic, and investigative coverage. Apart from this, a key part will be providing hands-on, constructive mentorship to junior reporters.

About you

This is a role for you if:

You are a high-energy journalist who combines reportorial skills with delightful writing and deep business understanding, across small and large businesses.

You have reported across important beats for at least 10 years and are excited at the prospect of peeling back layers in complex, developing stories.

You are not merely interested in the facts of a story but also have a strong, often contrarian, point of view.

You are a hands-on mentor who enjoys working with reporters and takes pride in how their stories shape up.

You thrive in upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and don’t buckle under operational challenges.
