Job Title: Manager/Sr Manager Procurement (Steel)

Reports To: Procurement Head Solar Projects

Experience: 10-15 years in steel procurement for infrastructure or renewable projects

Education: B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical/Civil/Industrial) | MBA preferred

Role Objective:

To manage procurement of critical steel components for utility-scale solar power projects, ensuring timely availability of quality materials like MMS structures, fasteners, foundation bolts, and cable trays, aligned with project timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Procurement of Major Steel Components, including:

Module Mounting Structures (MMS): Hot-dip galvanized (HDG) structures, cold-formed sections, pre-fabricated beams, and support arms.

Foundation Materials: Anchor/foundation bolts, base plates, templates.

Cable Management: Cable trays, support brackets, raceways.

Fasteners & Accessories: U-bolts, clamps, spring washers, nuts & bolts HDG/stainless as per specifications.

Transformer/Equipment Platforms: Structural steel for inverter skid frames, equipment mounting.

Earthing Materials: GI strips, earthing rods, cross-arms.

Walkways, Ladders & Railings: Gratings, staircases, handrails – especially for inverter stations or cleaning paths.

Structural Steel for Control Room Buildings (if in scope): Beams, columns, trusses, purlins.

• Technical Review & Compliance:

Ensure steel grades (IS 2062, ASTM A36, etc.) and galvanization (HDG – 80–100 microns) match design specs.

Coordinate with design and engineering teams for BOM validation and fabrication drawings.

Work with quality teams to ensure mill test certificates (MTCs), coating thickness, and other QC checks.

• Vendor Interface:

Collaborate with steel manufacturers, fabricators, and galvanizers.

Evaluate vendor capacity for bulk MMS fabrication and timely galvanizing turnaround.

Track lead times for raw material availability and processing (cutting, punching, welding, HDG, bundling).

• Logistics Coordination:

Plan dispatches based on site readiness and erection schedules.

Ensure proper bundling, tagging, and packing of MMS parts to avoid mix-up at site.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge of:

MMS structure design basics

Galvanization standards and coating requirements

Steel fabrication processes (punching, cutting, welding, pre-assembly)

• Awareness of:

IS/ASTM/JIS steel standards and testing methods

Common issues at site like mismatch, corrosion, and missing parts — and how to

prevent them during procurement

• Proficient in:

SAP or similar ERP platforms

Reading fabrication drawings and part lists

Microsoft Excel for material tracking and reporting

Desired Profile:

• Worked in procurement roles on large-scale solar EPC projects (50 MW+).
• Familiarity with vendors across India for steel fabrication and galvanizing.
• Ability to coordinate between design, vendor, logistics, and site teams seamlessly.
• Strong documentation, material tracking, and follow-up discipline.
