Mainframe z/OS system programmer ( PAN INDIA)

Job Summary

The Mainframe z/OS System Programmer will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting z/OS and related mainframe system software. The role requires deep expertise in MVS, SMPE, system builds, performance, software upgrades, DR drills, and LPAR management. The engineer will work closely with operations, hardware, storage, and application teams to ensure a stable, secure, and optimized mainframe environment.

Key Responsibilities

1 Software Installation & System Maintenance

• Install MVS software into the SOS repository.
  
• Package and install software using

  SMP/E

  .
• Implement software changes following the defined change-control process.
  
• Apply

  software zaps

  and perform third-party software extensions.
• Perform

  product upgrades

  , license key updates, and patching.

2 System Builds & Configuration

• Complete

  z/OS builds

  and system refreshes.
• Perform MVS tasks for:
  
• Migration projects
  
• LPAR builds
  
• LPAR decommissioning
  
• CPU swap projects
  
• Create and update

  I/O Configurations (IOGENs)

  .

3 Operations & Performance

• Execute MOM tickets to prepare for

  Maintenance IPLs

  .
• Maintain and update

  system exits, SMF data, OMVS segments, zFS files

  .
• Maintain

  complex system profiles

  and Asset Center records.

4 Incident, Problem & Change Management

• Act as an SME for z/OS in troubleshooting major incidents.
  
• Handle Incident, Problem, and Change Management (ITIL).
  
• Participate in audits, vulnerability remediation, and compliance checks.
  

5 Disaster Recovery & System Reliability

• Perform MVS tasks required for

  DR drills

  .
• Participate in client disaster-recovery exercises.
  
• Maintain and support

  Coupling Facility / Sysplex

  environments.

6 Automation & Scripting

• Demonstrate strong skills in

  REXX, Assembler, and ISPF dialogs

  scripting.
• Automate repetitive system tasks and operating procedures.
  

7 Technical Collaboration

• Work with hardware, storage, and operations teams during:
  
• CPU hardware refresh
  
• Sysplex configuration
  
• Software migrations
  
• Support cross-functional teams during system upgrades and refresh cycles.
