Mainframe Systems Operations / Console Operations Specialist

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor & manage Production/Test LPARs.
• First-level break-fix support for mainframe infrastructure.
• Perform IPLs, SADs, and scheduled operational changes.
• Support and manage HMC and console hardware environments.
• Monitor and analyze batch cycles (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
• Ensure batch job completion as per the schedule; investigate long-running/looping jobs.
• Operate scheduling tools like OPC, CA-7, and Control-M.
• Handle operational weekend activities, escalations, and root cause analysis.
• Manage Incident, Change, and Problem Management processes.
• Resolve batch job failures and operational anomalies.
• Maintain and update operational procedures and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional support and development teams.
  

Required Skills

• Experience with scheduling tools: OPC, CA-7, Control-M.
• Strong understanding of IPL process and system startup/shutdown routines.
• Hands-on experience with HMC and console operations.
• Familiarity with CA-OPS/MVS, operator/display commands.
• Ability to migrate startup/shutdown processes to SSM control.
• Solid grasp of Incident/Change/Problem Management processes.
• Proficient in identifying and resolving batch failures and long-running jobs.
• Experience working with VSE, zOS, and VM environments.
