Senior Mainframe Scheduler / Batch Scheduling Analyst

IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS (OPC)

Primary Responsibility Areas (Key Responsibilities)

• OPC-Based Job Scheduling: Develop, update, and manage batch job schedules using IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (OPC).
• Batch Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Monitor batch job execution, manage dependencies, identify and troubleshoot scheduling issues or job failures.
• Daily Support Operations: Provide day-to-day support for batch scheduling operations, including reruns, restarts, and job modifications.
• Coordination & Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for scheduling-related queries. Coordinate with application teams, infrastructure teams, and end-users.
• Process Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of job streams, calendars, dependencies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Optimization & Automation: Continuously look for ways to optimize batch job flows, reduce failures, and increase performance. Suggest automation where applicable.
• Incident & Change Management: Respond to incidents related to job failures, schedule delays, and changes. Follow ITIL practices for incident and change control.
  

Mandatory Skills

• Hands-on expertise in OPC (IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS) – Primary Skill
• Deep understanding of JCL, job streams, triggers, and dependencies
• Strong knowledge of Mainframe Operating Systems and batch processing
• Experience working in 24x7 production support environments
• Familiarity with SLA-based operations and escalation handling
• Strong analytical thinking and debugging skills
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with other schedulers like CA-7 or Control-M
• Basic knowledge of REXX, CLIST, or other mainframe scripting tools
• Understanding of ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)
• Knowledge of mainframe performance metrics
  

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
