Job Summary
The
School Librarian
plays a vital role in supporting the academic curriculum and promoting a love for reading and research. The librarian manages the library’s day-to-day operations, develops its collection, assists students and staff with resource access, and fosters information literacy within a multicultural and inquiry-based learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Organize and maintain the library collection (physical and digital), including cataloguing, classifying, and shelving resources.
Implement and maintain an effective library management system (LMS).Monitor usage, loan records, overdue items, and maintain inventory accuracy.Ensure a safe, quiet, and welcoming space for reading, study, and research.
Cultivate a culture of reading and literacy by curating age-appropriate collections.
Organize book fairs, reading challenges, author visits, and storytelling sessions.Recommend books and resources to students and staff based on interest and curriculum needs.
- Curriculum Support & Information Literacy
Collaborate with teachers to support inquiry-based learning and research projects.
Deliver lessons on digital literacy, media awareness, citation, and academic honesty.Help students develop critical thinking and responsible information-use skills.
- Digital Resources & Technology
Manage subscriptions to digital platforms, e-books, and research databases.
Assist students and staff with using online research tools and digital reading platforms.Stay updated on emerging educational technologies and digital media trends.
- Administration & Budgeting
Manage the library budget, procure new resources, and liaise with vendors and publishers.
Track library metrics and prepare periodic reports on usage, new acquisitions, and needs.Ensure compliance with school policies and copyright laws.
Encourage family and community involvement in library programs and events.Foster a global perspective through multicultural and multilingual literature.Support students with special learning needs by offering differentiated resources.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or related field.Teaching certification or experience in an educational setting is preferred.Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a librarian, preferably in an international or bilingual school.Proficiency in library systems (e.g., Destiny, Follett, or equivalent LMS).Excellent communication and organizational skills.Fluent in English; additional languages are an asset.

Working Hours
