Job Description

As a Lead Engineer in the Platform Engineering team at Mastercard, you will play a crucial role in spearheading database initiatives for a high-performing engineering team. Your expertise will be pivotal in deploying and managing various database technologies in test and production environments for global products. If you are a natural problem solver with a strong affinity towards automation and possess a deep understanding of database management best practices, then this role is perfect for you. You will be responsible for championing database engineering best practices, governance, and standards within Mastercard's Business Systems and Operations worldwide. Your role will involve working closely with global teams across diverse geographies, requiring exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members located in various regions. Key responsibilities will include expert-level knowledge and implementation of database management, including installation, space management, backup and recovery, replication, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. You will be expected to demonstrate advanced expertise in RDBMS, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL, with additional experience in NoSQL databases being preferred. Your role will also involve deep understanding and implementation of security standards and best practices for database platforms, as well as hands-on experience in database tuning and troubleshooting. Furthermore, you will be required to provide technical leadership and guidance, mentor others in Oracle and PostgreSQL database tuning, replication, and administration, and align database strategy with business goals. Your ability to design and implement complex data solutions, identify bottlenecks in locks and waits, and implement proactive monitoring of all databases will be crucial for ensuring optimal performance and user experience. In addition to technical expertise, strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for building awareness and proactively promoting the DBA's position in support of sound database structures, data governance, and corporate strategies. Your role will also involve multitasking, prioritizing efforts effectively, and providing excellent customer service to internal business partners.
