LCA Engineer (Life Cycle Assessment)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented LCA Engineer to join our sustainability team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) of products, processes, and systems using established methodologies such as ISO 14040/44. You will provide critical data-driven insights to support eco-design, carbon footprint reduction, regulatory compliance, and sustainability strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-gate LCAs of products, components, or systems using tools like SimaPro, GaBi, OpenLCA, or equivalent.
• Collect and validate primary and secondary data for material, energy, transport, and end-of-life phases.
• Analyse environmental impacts including carbon footprint (GWP), water use, energy consumption, and resource depletion.
• Develop LCA models aligned with ISO standards (14040, 14044) and corporate sustainability goals.
• Generate clear and comprehensive reports and visualisations of results for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with product design, manufacturing, and procurement teams to identify environmental hotspots and recommend improvements.
• Stay up to date with LCA methodologies, standards, databases (e.g., Ecoinvent), and industry best practices.
• Support regulatory and customer requests (e.g., Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), etc.).
• Contribute to corporate sustainability reporting and eco-labelling initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Industrial Ecology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in performing LCAs (entry-level roles may be considered with academic LCA experience).
• Proficiency in LCA software tools such as SimaPro, GaBi, or OpenLCA.
• Familiarity with environmental impact assessment methods (e.g., ReCiPe, TRACI, CML).
• Strong analytical, data management, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with carbon footprinting and sustainability metrics.
• Familiarity with LCA standards such as ISO 14040, Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), ISO 14064, ISO 14067, etc.
• Experience in automating the LCA data collection and calculation process using the above software solutions.
• Possess strong technical knowledge of LCA frameworks and methodology (Comparative LCAs, allocation procedures, cut-off criteria, uncertainty analysis, data quality requirements, impact categories, and completeness, consistency, and sensitivity checks)
• 2+ years of experience in performing LCAs (entry-level roles may be considered with academic LCA experience).
