Lab Assistant - Electrical

Position:

Position Overview

• Experiment Setup:

  Prepare and arrange the necessary equipment, components (e.g., resistors, capacitors, wires), machines (e.g., DC/AC motors, alternators, transformers), and instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators) for scheduled practical classes and experiments as per the faculty's instructions and the curriculum (e.g., AC Fundamentals, Electrical Machines, Basic Electronics).

• Student Support:

  Assist and supervise students/cadets during practical sessions, ensuring they follow proper experimental procedures, correct connection of circuits, and safe operating practices.

• Demonstration:

  Demonstrate the proper handling and operation of sophisticated electrical and electronic equipment to the students.

2. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration

• Troubleshooting & Repair:

  Perform routine inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repair of laboratory equipment, trainer kits, and power supplies to ensure everything is in good working order.

• Calibration:

  Ensure the accuracy of measuring instruments like multimeters, power meters, and energy meters by performing necessary checks and calibration.

• Upgradation:

  Assist academic staff in the modification, development, and construction of new experimental setups and teaching aids.

3. Inventory and Documentation

• Inventory Management:

  Maintain accurate records and a comprehensive inventory of all lab assets, including equipment, components, tools, and consumables.

• Procurement:

  Monitor stock levels of consumables and components, initiate requisitions for necessary purchases, and liaise with the purchase department and vendors for new equipment procurement, installation, and maintenance.

• Record Keeping:

  Maintain log books for equipment usage, maintenance, fault reports, and student attendance/issue registers.

4. Safety and Compliance

• Safety Enforcement:

  Ensure strict adherence to all laboratory safety protocols, electrical safety standards, and university policies by students and staff at all times.

• Environment:

  Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized laboratory environment.

• First Aid:

  Be aware of and trained in basic first aid procedures for electrical shock or lab accidents.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Technical Proficiency:

  Strong practical knowledge of

  AC/DC circuits

  ,

  electrical machines (motors, generators, transformers)

  , power systems, basic electronics, and common electrical measuring instruments.

• Troubleshooting:

  Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits and equipment.

• Computer Skills:

  Basic computer literacy (MS Office) for record-keeping and familiarity with engineering simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Multisim) is an advantage.

• Safety Knowledge:

  Thorough knowledge of laboratory and electrical safety procedures.

• Soft Skills:

  Excellent verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team with faculty, staff, and students.
