Japanese Bilingual Scrum Master

About the job

• Fluent in reading, writing, and conversing in both Japanese & English languages to establish good coordination and communication with Customer, Onsite and Offshore teams.
• Actively involve in the primary responsibilities that include but not limited to:
• Serve as Scrum Master for one or more cross-functional teams developing and supporting insurance IT products (policy admin, claims, billing, etc.).
• Organize and facilitate Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives, in bilingual (Japanese/English) settings.
• Coach teams on Agile values, principles, and practices to improve delivery and team health.
• Shield teams from external disruptions and help identify and remove impediments.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration between onsite, and offshore teams.
• Track and help teams achieve sprint/release objectives, managing team velocity and burndown/burnup metrics.
• Support Product Owners and business stakeholders in backlog prioritization and acceptance criteria.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within insurance IT teams.
• Actively contribute towards various Transformation initiatives (Process maturity, Devops automation, Security vulnerability remediation, etc.) to achieve the project goals.
• Mentoring and guiding junior team members while assigning and tracking the tasks for closure without any schedule, quality and cost slippages.

Required Skills

• JLPT N3/N2 or Above certified. Fluent in reading, writing, and conversing in Japanese with native speakers.
• 5+ years of Scrum Master or Agile Project Management experience.
• Practical insurance domain knowledge (Life and/or P&C), with proven experience in regulated, bilingual environments.
• Deep familiarity with Agile/Scrum principles and associated tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
• Experience working with distributed and multicultural teams.
• Ability to effectively coordinate with Product owner, Customer SMEs from Business & IT, Onsite and Offshore teams.
• Actively involve in Application transition and stabilization phases by aligning to Japan (JST) working hours.

Nice To Have

• Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM, or equivalent).
• Exposure to hybrid delivery (Guidewire, Salesforce, COTS, digital modernization).
• Experience supporting both business analysts and technical delivery teams.
• Insurance process or ITIL certification.
