We have the following opening for our client, a reputed iron ore mining steel manufacturing company in Hospet, Karnataka location requires for its plant at Sandur, Senior Manager - Lab Base Location: Sandur, Karnataka Experience: 14-17 Years Industry: Iron ore / Metals /Mining Qualification: Bachelor's or Masters degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Role and Responsibilities: Senior Manager for the Process Laboratory in an Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant and Iron Ore Pellet Plant is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the testing, quality control, and process development activities within the laboratory. The position requires strong technical expertise in mineral processing, particularly in beneficiation and pelletizing processes, as well as managerial skills to lead and guide a team of engineers and technicians. Key Responsibilities: 1. Process Development and Optimization: • Lead the development, design, and implementation of innovative beneficiation and pelletizing processes to improve the plant's performance. •Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot operational issues and optimize existing processes for better yield, recovery rates, and efficiency. •Conduct process audits and implement corrective actions to meet production targets. 2. Laboratory Operations: • Supervise and manage the daily activities of the process laboratory, ensuring that testing is carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). •Oversee sample preparation, analysis, and testing of iron ore, concentrate, and pellets using various analytical techniques (XRF, XRD, particle size analysis, chemical assays, etc.). •Ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results and quality assessments to relevant stakeholders. 3. Quality Control and Compliance: • Ensure the laboratory adheres to internal quality control measures and complies with industry standards and regulations. •Manage the quality assurance program for beneficiation and pelletisation, ensuring the production of iron ore pellets meets customer specifications and internal quality benchmarks. •Oversee the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. 4. Team Leadership: • Lead, mentor, and train a team of laboratory engineers, chemists, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment. •Allocate resources and assign tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory. •Conduct performance reviews and encourage professional development within the team. 5. Research and Development (R&D): • Drive R&D initiatives aimed at improving process efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing the quality of iron ore concentrates and pellets. •Stay updated on advancements in beneficiation and pelletizing technologies, and recommend the adoption of new techniques or equipment that could benefit the operation. 6. Reporting and Documentation: • Prepare detailed technical reports on laboratory findings, process performance, and quality trends for presentation to senior management and operations teams. •Maintain comprehensive records of all tests, process trials, and research activities. 7. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): • Ensure that the laboratory operates in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. •Promote a culture of safety within the laboratory and implement safety protocols to minimize risks associated with handling chemicals, machinery, and equipment. 8. Budgeting and Cost Control: • Manage the laboratorys budget, controlling costs related to chemicals, reagents, consumables, and equipment. •Optimize resources to ensure cost-effective laboratory operations while maintaining high-quality testing and analysis. Skills: o Strong knowledge of iron ore beneficiation techniques (e.g., crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, flotation, etc.). o Expertise in pelletization processes (e.g., balling, induration, and quality testing of pellets). o Proficiency with laboratory equipment and testing methodologies. o Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. o Familiarity with industry standards and quality management systems (e.g., ISO). Additional Desirable Qualities: • Knowledge of new technologies and sustainability practices in iron ore processing. •Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic production environment. •Experience with advanced data analysis and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
