Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Inventory managers oversee warehouses or similar facilities, where they monitor inventory levels to ensure the company does not face a shortage of goods. They often lead a team of inventory staff and support them as they receive, record, and monitor new stock entering the warehouse. Here are some more duties of an inventory manager:

  • Evaluating suppliers:

Inventory managers find and evaluate suppliers. They maintain strong business connections with suppliers, especially when handling delivery issues.
  • Reducing costs:

These managers develop and implement strategies for reducing operational, storage, and distribution costs. They frequently work with several suppliers, negotiating deals with those offering quality products at affordable prices.
  • Preparing records:

Employers expect inventory managers to create and manage inventory documentation. They accurately record quantity, type and style so that everyone knows what inventory is available.
  • Purchasing new inventory:

Having precise knowledge of current product levels helps these managers know when to purchase more stock. When an item or line is low, they negotiate prices and delivery timelines with suppliers.
  • Tracking inventory:

An inventory manager ensures the company has sufficient stock to meet their customer's needs. Using periodic and perpetual inventory systems, they track, and manage warehouse stock levels.
  • Forecasting inventory requirements:

Inventory managers collaborate with sales teams to analyse sales figures. Based on this analysis, they are able to produce accurate forecasts about inventory needs.
  • Hiring inventory staff:

These managers often oversee the recruitment process based on the company's requirements. In addition to onboarding new employees, they also provide training to help ensure new team members complete their tasks efficiently
