Job Description: Instrumentation Engineer – SMS-3

Location: Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), Chhattisgarh
Department: Steel Melting Shop-3 (SMS-3)

Reports To: Maintenance Head / Project Manager

Role Overview

The Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of all instrumentation systems within SMS-3 operations at Bhilai Steel Plant. The candidate will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and production teams to ensure safe and efficient operations of equipment and systems critical to steel production.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of field instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, level).
• Troubleshoot instrumentation systems including PLCs, DCS, transmitters, and control loops.
• Installation & Commissioning:
• Supervise and execute installation and commissioning of new instruments and control systems.
• Ensure compliance with engineering drawings and safety standards.
• Calibration & Testing:
• Conduct calibration of field devices and ensure measurement accuracy.
• Maintain records of calibration and testing activities.
• Process Optimization:
• Analyze performance data to improve process efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Work with production and quality teams to implement automation improvements.
• Documentation & Compliance:
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including SOPs, wiring diagrams, and maintenance logs.
• Ensure compliance with ISO, safety, and industry standards.
• Team Coordination:
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal departments for project execution and maintenance support.
• Train junior technicians and operators on instrument handling and basic troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education:
• B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, or Electrical & Electronics.
• Experience:
• Minimum 4–6 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance in heavy industries, preferably in steel plants

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
