PURPOSE OF POSITION

An IT Security Engineer is responsible for protecting an organization & IT infrastructure and data by designing, implementing, and maintaining security measures. They assess vulnerabilities, respond to security incidents, and develop strategies to mitigate risks. This involves a combination of technical skills, including network security, system security, and application security, all aimed at safeguarding the organization from cyber threats.

Job Responsibility

Key Responsibilities of an IT Security Engineer:

• Designing and Implementing Security Systems: This includes firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, security protocols, and other security devices.

• Conducting Vulnerability Assessments and Penetration Testing: Identifying weaknesses in systems and networks to address potential security risks.

• Developing and Implementing Security Policies and Procedures: Establishing guidelines for secure operations and user behavior.

• Monitoring Security Logs and Responding to Incidents: Detecting and responding to security breaches and other suspicious activities.

• Staying Updated on Security Threats and Technologies: Keeping abreast of the latest cyber threats and security best practices.

• Collaborating with other IT Teams: Working with network administrators, software developers, and other teams to integrate security into all aspects of the organization's IT infrastructure.

• Educating Staff on Security Awareness: Promoting a security-conscious culture within the organization through training and awareness programs.

• Performing Risk Assessments: Evaluating the potential impact of security threats and vulnerabilities.

• Troubleshooting Security Issues: Diagnosing and resolving problems with security systems and applications.

• Maintaining Security Documentation: Creating and maintaining records of security configurations, procedures, and incidents.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of network security, system security, application security, and security protocols.

Security Tools Proficiency: Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, security information and event management (SIEM) tools, and other security-related technologies.

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve security issues and incidents.

Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate security risks, recommendations, and incident details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
