The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) connects people with the wisdom of Sikhi through accessible educational resources and experiences. We aim to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of Sikh heritage, principles, and practices, fostering critical thinking and strengthening the global Sikh community. Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, culturally agile HR Manager/People & Culture Lead to build, manage, and strengthen SikhRI's HR and People Operations function. This role requires someone who can design and implement HR frameworks aligned with US, Canadian, and Indian employment norms, while nurturing a strong organizational culture. You will serve as the anchor of our People Department, supporting approximately 50 team members (20 full-time staff and 2025 contract staff) across geographies. While physically based in Mohali, you will work closely with leadership and teams globally to ensure a consistent and supportive people experience. You will report to the Operations Director.Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Compliance
- Oversee HR operations across India, the US, and Canada.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, taxation, benefits, and labor regulations in all three geographies.
- Manage contracts, offer letters, and HR documentation.
- Handle payroll coordination with finance teams and external partners.
Talent Management & Recruitment
- Lead recruitment efforts for full-time, part-time, and contract roles.
- Develop a consistent onboarding process across geographies.
- Partner with leadership to identify future talent needs and develop effective succession planning strategies.
Performance & KRAs
- Co-design KRAs, KPIs, and performance frameworks aligned to SikhRI's mission.
- Facilitate regular performance reviews and feedback loops.
- Guide managers on best practices in coaching, performance development, and conflict resolution.
Culture & Engagement
- Champion SikhRI's values-driven and inclusive culture across diverse teams.
- Design and deliver engagement initiatives, learning sessions, and wellness programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, offering support, mediation, and guidance.
Policy & Process Development
- Establish HR policies that balance North American standards with local Indian execution realities.
- Build frameworks for flexible work, leave management, diversity & inclusion, and professional development.
- Continuously review and update policies in line with organizational growth.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
- 58 years of HR experience, with at least 23 years in an international/multi-country HR role.
- Prior exposure to non-profit or mission-driven organizations is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of HR compliance frameworks in the US, Canada, and India.
- Proven ability to design and implement HR processes, performance systems, and KRAs.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
- Strategic thinker who can balance day-to-day HR operations with long-term people development.
Work Environment
- Stationed in Mohali, with virtual collaboration across global teams.
- Requires flexibility to work across time zones (North America & India).
