Position Name : Head- Hot Rolling Mill- Mechanical -Project

Location :Jamshedpur

Qualification : B-tech /Diploma-

Experience : 20+ Years

Job Purpose-

The Incumbent will lead the mechanical engineering, installation, and commissioning activities of the Hot Rolling Mill project. The role requires strategic planning, technical expertise, vendor coordination, and cross-functional leadership to ensure timely project execution within budget and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning & Execution

• Lead end-to-end mechanical project activities for the hot rolling millfrom concept to commissioning.
• Develop project execution schedules, material plans, and resource allocation in coordination with civil, electrical, and automation teams.
• Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and technical specifications.
• Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, equipment layouts, and BOQs.

Equipment Selection & Procurement

• Evaluate technical offers, prepare specifications, and finalize equipment such as reheating furnaces, roughing and finishing stands, shears, cooling beds, coilers, etc.
• Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and contractors for design finalization and FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).
• Ensure compliance with mechanical codes, standards, and quality requirements.

3. Site Supervision & Installation

• Lead mechanical erection and alignment activities for mill equipment, piping, and auxiliary systems.
• Monitor contractor performance and ensure safety compliance during erection and commissioning.
• Resolve technical issues during installation and trial runs in coordination with vendors and OEMs.

4. Commissioning & Handover

• Oversee mechanical commissioning, performance testing, and optimization of rolling mill systems.
• Ensure successful handover to the Operations & Maintenance team with full documentation and training.

5. Team Leadership & Coordination

• Lead a multidisciplinary project team including engineers, supervisors, and contractors.
• Facilitate coordination between design, procurement, and execution teams for smooth workflow.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and promote a safety-first culture on-site.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of hot rolling mill mechanical systems, layouts, and process flow.
• Expertise in project management, equipment erection, and commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical design, hydraulics, pneumatics, and utilities systems.
• Excellent vendor management, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera, and other project management tools.
