Our customer is initiating a large-scale migration project to transition from Palo Alto Networks firewalls to Fortinet FortiGate solutions. We are seeking an experienced Fortinet Security Engineer with advanced expertise in Fortinet technologies to lead design, configuration, migration, and optimization tasks. The role will involve working with FortiGate (FGT), FortiAnalyzer (FAZ), FortiManager (FMG), FortiAuthenticator (FAC), and Fortinet SD-WAN, while ensuring seamless integration into a complex enterprise environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead firewall migration from Palo Alto Networks (Panorama-based configs) to Fortinet FortiGate platforms (FGT 901G, 71G).
- Design, configure, and deploy FortiGate HA pairs, including specialized HA deployments for DMZ environments.
- Configure VLAN sub-interfaces, virtual wire pairs, and both Layer 2 and Layer 3 firewall setups.
- Implement advanced routing on FortiGate firewalls, including:
- OSPF for internal routing
- BGP for external routing where applicable
- Deploy and configure Fortinet FSSO (Fortinet Single Sign-On) for user identity awareness and logging.
- Manage firewall policies, routing, and SD-WAN configuration using FortiManager.
- Optimize centralized management with FortiAnalyzer for logging, analytics, and reporting.
- Assist in conversion and migration of Panorama configurations into Fortinet equivalents.
- Work with customer's existing ecosystem, including:
- SonicWall HA pairs
- Extreme Networks infrastructure and SD-WAN
- Provide knowledge transfer, documentation, and operational best practices to customer teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- Fortinet Expertise: Hands-on experience with FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAuthenticator, and Fortinet SD-WAN.
- Certifications: NSE7 or FCSS certification (required).
- Firewall Migration: Proven track record in migrating from Palo Alto to Fortinet (or other firewall migrations).
- Networking Skills:
- Deep knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 configuration
- OSPF, BGP, and advanced routing protocols
- VLANs, sub-interfaces, and zone-based architecture
- High Availability: Strong background configuring and troubleshooting HA pairs in enterprise environments.
- Identity & Logging: Experience deploying FSSO for identity-based access and logging.
- Management Platforms: Skilled in leveraging FortiManager templates/policies and FortiAnalyzer reporting.
- Interoperability: Ability to integrate Fortinet devices with third-party platforms (SonicWall, Extreme Networks).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with large-scale firewall conversions (Palo Alto → Fortinet highly desirable).
- Familiarity with Panorama configuration migration.
- Strong documentation and knowledge transfer skills.
- Ability to work in complex, multi-vendor enterprise environments.
