Fashion Merchandiser

A garment merchandiser's responsibilities include:

• Product development: Collaborate with designers to create apparel products that meet design concepts, while considering factors like fabric selection, construction techniques, and cost
• Sourcing: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and manufacturers
• Sampling: Create product prototypes before starting bulk production
• Vendor relations: Maintain good relationships with vendors, suppliers, and distributors, and coordinate with them to establish profitable deals
• Quality assurance: Ensure the quality of products and collections, from the early stages of design
• Inspection: Inspect products for quality and compliance with industry standards
• Planning: Plan for the entire production process and financial process
• Shipping: Ensure all shipping documents are prepared, and arrange for shipping
• Communication: Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong listening, presentation, and decision making skills

Other responsibilities of a garment merchandiser include:

• Calculating prices
• Preparing sales figures
• Giving policy guidelines to buyers
• Monitoring stock management
• Preparing purchase orders
• Negotiating with buyers, factories, and others about cost price
• Approving samples
• Scheduling and tracking factory production
• Monitoring all production processes
