Job Summary: The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining the organizations environmental, health, and safety programs. This role involves conducting safety audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. Role & responsibilities Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and standards. Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies. - Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards. Oversee incident investigation and reporting and implement corrective actions. - Training and Education: Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees. Promote awareness and understanding of safety practices and regulations. Maintain records of training sessions and employee certifications. - Environmental Management: Monitor and manage waste disposal, recycling, and pollution prevention programs. Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials. Coordinate with external vendors for environmental services as needed. - Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct regular drills and ensure readiness for emergencies. Act as a point of contact for emergency response and management. - Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance activities. Prepare and present reports on EHS performance and compliance to management. - Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving EHS programs and practices. Stay current with industry best practices and advancements in EHS technology. Preferred candidate profile Requirements and skills Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct inspections and audits, which may involve walking, standing, or climbing. Capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Work Environment: May involve working in both office and field environments. Occasionally required to work outside regular hours to address safety concerns or emergencies. Educational qualification: Bachelors degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are a plus. Years of Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental health and safety, preferably in a similar industry. Skills: Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities. Proficiency with EHS management software and tools.
