About the Role

Backend Engineering Manager

You will drive technical excellence, coach engineers, collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and platform teams, and ensure our systems deliver seamless fan experiences worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers working primarily with

  Node.js

  ,

  TypeScript

  , and

  AWS

  .
• Design, develop, and optimize

  high-volume, low-latency APIs

  and

  microservices

  supporting millions of DAZN users.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver high-impact, scalable backend solutions.
• Establish and drive best practices in

  code quality, CI/CD, testing, and observability

  .
• Manage sprint planning, technical design reviews, and delivery timelines.
• Recruit, retain, and grow world-class backend talent.
• Foster a collaborative engineering culture rooted in continuous learning and ownership.
• Work closely with stakeholders across global teams (UK, Poland, Japan, and Italy).

Requirements

• 10+ years

  of total experience with at least

  3+ years in people management

  .
• Proven expertise in

  Node.js

  (Express, NestJS, or similar frameworks) and

  Java

• Solid knowledge of

  RESTful APIs

  ,

  GraphQL

  ,

  microservices

  , and

  event-driven architecture

  .
• Hands-on experience with

  AWS services

  (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, S3, etc.) and

  containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

  .
• Strong understanding of

  CI/CD pipelines

  monitoring

  , and

  logging tools

  . Hands on Code Reviews
• Experience with

  TypeScript

  SQL/NoSQL databases

  message brokers (Kafka, SNS/SQS)

• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Exposure to streaming, media tech, or OTT systems is a plus.
