Job Description

Key Responsibilities for Fit-Out Electricians1. Planning and Design Interpretation

  • Blueprint Analysis: Reading and accurately interpreting architectural drawings, interior design layouts, and mechanical/electrical schematics to determine the placement of all electrical components.

  • Electrical Planning: Developing or reviewing electrical layout plans, load schedules, and circuiting plans to ensure the design is technically feasible and meets the required electrical load.
  • Coordination: Collaborating closely with other trades (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, interior designers) to ensure electrical conduits and fixtures are seamlessly integrated into ceilings, walls, and flooring systems, often within very tight spaces.

2. Specialized Installation Work

  • Lighting Systems: Installing a variety of specialized and decorative lighting fixtures, including recessed lighting, track lighting, chandeliers, architectural lighting, and LED strip lighting, often involving complex controls (e.g., dimmers, smart systems).
  • Power and Data Points: Installing, connecting, and testing power sockets, floor boxes, data/communication outlets, and specialized connections for high-demand equipment (e.g., kitchen appliances, server rooms).
  • Distribution Boards (DBs): Installing and connecting sub-main distribution boards and circuit breaker panels as required by the new fit-out layout.
  • ELV (Extra-Low Voltage) Systems: Installation and wiring for low-voltage systems, which are critical in modern fit-outs:
  • Security and Access Control (CCTV, door entry systems).
  • Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Data and Network Cabling.
  • Building Management Systems (BMS).

3. Compliance, Testing, and Handover

  • Code Compliance: Ensuring all electrical installations strictly comply with local authority electrical codes and safety regulations (e.g., NEC or specific regional codes).
  • Inspection and Testing: Performing rigorous continuity, insulation resistance, and functional tests on all new and modified electrical systems before project handover.
  • Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnosing and rectifying any electrical defects or "snags" identified during final inspections to meet strict project deadlines.
  • Documentation: Preparing and maintaining necessary project documentation, including test reports and As-Built Drawings (final diagrams showing the installed system).
