Role DescriptionDepartmentThe Department of Environment and Geography is seeking a Doctoral Training Project Manager. The University of York is leading an innovative and exciting Doctoral Training Programme. The programme seeks to address barriers to entry for students from non-standard backgrounds and encourage applicants from the non-academic sector with relevant ‘lived experiences’ to upskill and retrain.The successful candidate will be part of a supportive and community-oriented department that has a strong commitment to upholding our core values (embracing diversity, making a positive difference, environmental sustainability, being friendly and helpful, and always learning). Our department is highly integrated within an exciting array of environmental sustainability endeavours at our university, such as the Environmental Sustainability Academy at York and the Stockholm Environmental Institute (York), providing many opportunities for interdisciplinary working and networking across the university and beyond. The department is proud to hold an Athena Swan Silver Award.RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Training Project Manager to be based in the Department of Environment and Geography/ Chemistry Student Services team to work in partnership with the Project Lead, Management Team and project partners to provide pivotal support in implementing and delivering the Programme. The role holder will be responsible for coordinating the logistics for a range of bespoke events, financial management, contract management, ensuring good governance, overseeing the logistics for student recruitment, coordinating meetings, maintaining data, preparing reports, helping to find innovative solutions and navigate around potential barriers, and collaborate as an active member of the doctoral training manager team within the science faculty.This post is available at 40% FTE on a fixed term contract. Please note that flexible working patterns will be considered.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

  • Taking ownership for / Hold a significant role in the delivery of distinct pieces of work e.g. leading a project
  • Gather, analyse, interpret and report complex data/information
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools
  • Experience of building effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to respond proactively to unique challenges, exploring alternatives to standard practice.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with exceptional ability to listen, empathise and innovate a range of solutions.
  • Works collaboratively with others
  • Knowledge and understanding of the higher education landscape
  • Actively champions respect, inclusivity, equality and diversity
