Deputy Program Lead-Medical - India Health Action Trust (IHAT) Deputy Program Lead-Medical
About IHAT:

India Health Action Trust was instituted in 2003 with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. The Trust is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use program science to optimise and scale public health programs while partnering with the governments and communities.

Job Summary :

TPT coverage, medical college engagement, differentiated TB care implementation, and DR-TB management

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical Strategy & Planning

  • Develop a detailed roadmap and work plan for TPT coverage, medical college engagement, differentiated TB care, and DR-TB diagnoses and care in coordination with the Deputy Director
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure alignment with national TB elimination program guidelines and project objectives.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Drive high-level discussions with senior government officials at the state level to advocate for and facilitate project activities.
  • Liaise with Central TB Division, State TB Cells, STDCs, State Task Force(s), and WHO for coordinated implementation of training and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Engage private healthcare providers to enhance quality of TB case detection and treatment coverage.
  1. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Interpret analyses of district-wise performance for TPT uptake, DR-TB treatment, and differentiated TB care; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Facilitate periodic reviews with district and state teams, ensuring progress against targets is tracked and reported.
  • Provide timely support to the Deputy Director, highlighting challenges and proposing tailored solutions.
  1. Capacity Building & Supportive Supervision

  • Identify capacity gaps within districts and the State TB Cells; design and organize training sessions in collaboration with state officials.
  • Provide supportive supervision and mentoring to district and state TB program staff to improve service quality.

5. Partnerships & Cross-Sector Coordination

  • Coordinate with allied departments and partner agencies to foster effective public-private partnerships for TB service delivery.
  • Facilitate collaboration between medical colleges and the TB program for enhanced teaching, research, and clinical services.

6. Any other responsibilities assigned by the management

Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 7 years experience, including at least 3 years in infectious disease programs.
  • Prior experience of working in TB programs is desirable.
  • Experience working with government health systems, public health partners, and donor-funded projects.
Education:

Public Health / Health Administration / Community Health Administration / Preventive & Social Medicine

Key Competencies:

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of TB epidemiology, NTEP guidelines, and WHO-recommended TB strategies.
  • Proficiency in program data analysis and use of TB data platforms (e.g., Nikshay).

Conceptual and Analytical Skills

  • Proven ability to conceptualize, analyze, innovate, plan, and execute strategies.
  • Experience in participating in strategic planning processes and strengthening the programmatic capacity, particularly in innovations and systems development.

Leadership and Management

  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial experience, preferably in a public healthcare program setting.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, technical advisory groups, and external stakeholders.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation, and report writing capabilities.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex messages to diverse audiences with clarity and persuasion.
