Job Description

Role Overview: As a Counsel I at our company, you will be responsible for providing legal guidance and thought leadership to the business. Your main objective will be to offer legal support, advice, and guidance to the business. You are expected to be a pragmatic, proactive attorney with a thorough understanding of the Business and a solid grounding in the laws and regulations relevant to the geographies of operation. Your role will involve providing input into strategic decisions, exercising sound legal judgment, and developing proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially practical business-oriented solutions. Key Responsibilities: - Provide legal guidance to the Business, participate in strategic initiatives, interpret relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices, and advise on legal matters impacting the business - Evaluate business proposals by managing documentation, applying institutional knowledge and risk appetite against industry standards, laws, rules, and regulatory guidelines - Collaborate with team and external counsel on routine operative needs, coordinate closely with the Legal team on a regional and global basis - Manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk by following legal developments, participating in internal projects, and escalating issues as appropriate - Assess risk in business decisions, safeguard the firm's reputation, drive compliance with laws and regulations, adhere to Policy, and effectively supervise the activity of others Qualifications: - 0-2 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services - Banking or financial industry experience, including knowledge of banking regulations - Understanding of international laws, regulations, and practices, staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies, and industry trends - Experience with complex deals, ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions - Effective communication, negotiation skills, ability to build trusted relationships - Interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management skills - Ability to apply sound judgment in a fast-paced environment - Bar license in good standing to practice law Additional Company Details: The candidate for this role will assist with the negotiation of markets trading documentation for Citigroup's markets sales and trading desks, fund services throughout the Asia Pacific (AP) region. The Markets Legal Contract Management (MLCM) team provides legal advisory and documentation services for markets sales and trading desks, fund services across different regions, with a focus on the AP region. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with Legal colleagues, stakeholders in Risk, Operations, Business, and clients across the Asia Pacific region.,
