Cost Accountant

As a Cost Accountant, your primary responsibility will be to collect and analyze cost data related to production, labor, materials, and overhead. You will maintain and update cost accounting systems and expense databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Additionally, you will prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports, forecasts, and budgets to management. You will conduct detailed variance analysis by comparing standard costs to actual costs, investigating discrepancies, and reporting on the causes of variances. Collaborating with department heads from Production, Operations, and Supply Chain, you will establish accurate cost standards and develop departmental budgets. Your role will involve recommending cost-saving strategies and process improvements by providing data-driven insights to leadership. In terms of financial controls and compliance, you will assist in month-end and year-end financial closings, including preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts. It is essential to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), company policies, and internal controls. Moreover, you will participate in internal and external audits by providing necessary cost documentation and analysis. To qualify for this role, you should possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CMA (Certified Management Accountant) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) are highly preferred. Ideally, you should have 10-20 years of experience in a cost accounting or financial analysis role, preferably in a manufacturing or similar industry. Demonstrated experience with costing methodologies such as standard costing and activity-based costing is crucial. In terms of technical skills, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling, is required. Experience with ERP systems like SAP and cost accounting software is beneficial. Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to use tools like SQL, Power BI, or Tableau to extract and visualize data, are essential. Your soft skills should include exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strong attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines is crucial for success in this role.
