Competent Person

Job Summary

The Competent Person is responsible for inspection, testing, examination, and certification of power press machines in accordance with the Maharashtra Factories Rules, 1963 and applicable statutory safety standards. The role ensures compliance, operational safety, and accident prevention in industrial workplaces.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Inspection & Certification
• Carry out thorough inspections and examinations of power press machines and related safety devices.
• Test machines for safe operation as per statutory norms and safety standards.
• Issue inspection reports and certificates of fitness as required under applicable factory rules.
• Compliance & Safety
• Ensure compliance with Factories Act, 1948 and Maharashtra Factories Rules, 1963.
• Identify unsafe conditions, defects, or non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
• Verify proper installation, guarding, and functioning of safety mechanisms.
• Technical Evaluation
• Assess manufacturing, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance practices of power press machines.
• Review machine layouts, controls, and operational procedures from a safety perspective.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and certification documents.
• Submit required reports to the concerned authorities or factory management.
• Ensure documentation is complete, updated, and audit-ready.
• Advisory & Guidance
• Provide technical guidance to management and shop-floor personnel on safe operation and maintenance.
• Support corrective and preventive measures to improve machine safety.
• Coordination
• Coordinate with factory management, maintenance teams, and statutory authorities during inspections and audits.
• Assist during accident investigations related to power press machines, if required.

Qualification & Experience (Brief)

• Graduate in Engineering (Mechanical / Mechatronic / Electrical / Electronics or equivalent as per AICTE).
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in power press machines.
• Approved / eligible as Competent Person under applicable rules.
