Job Description

Job Summary: The Debt Recovery Officer is responsible for contacting individuals or businesses with overdue accounts and ensuring the recovery of outstanding debts in a timely, professional, and ethical manner. The role requires excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, along with a firm understanding of credit control and legal debt recovery procedures. Key Responsibilities: Contact debtors via phone, email, or letters to recover outstanding debts. Negotiate payment plans and settlement agreements within company guidelines. Maintain accurate records of debtor communications and payments. Monitor payment schedules and follow up on broken arrangements. Liaise with legal departments or external debt collection agencies where necessary. Investigate and resolve queries related to disputed accounts. Ensure compliance with data protection, financial regulations, and company policies. Prepare reports on debt recovery progress and outstanding accounts. Recommend accounts for legal action or write-off when appropriate. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion. Requirements: Proven experience in debt collection, credit control, or a related financial role. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills. Good understanding of debt recovery laws and procedures. Proficient in MS Office and debt recovery or CRM software. High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Ability to handle difficult conversations and remain calm under pressure.
