Job Description

Job Summary:

The Head of the Civil Engineering Department will be responsible for overseeing all departmental operations including planning, designing, implementing projects or curricula (based on the context), managing staff, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and contributing to business or academic growth.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:For Academic Institutions:

  • Lead the civil engineering department in academic planning, curriculum development, and accreditation processes.
  • Supervise teaching, research, and consultancy work by faculty and students.
  • Mentor junior faculty and support their professional development.
  • Ensure high academic standards and student satisfaction.
  • Manage department budget, resources, and infrastructure.
  • Foster industry collaborations, internships, and placement opportunities.
  • Promote innovation, research, and participation in technical conferences.

For Construction/Real Estate/Infrastructure Firms:

  • Lead civil engineering teams in planning and execution of civil projects (residential, commercial, infrastructure).
  • Review and approve structural designs, BOQs, and material specifications.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local codes, environmental and safety regulations.
  • Liaise with architects, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Conduct site visits and resolve technical issues.
  • Develop SOPs for civil works and enforce standard practices.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.
  • Excellent project management and coordination abilities.
  • Sound understanding of structural design software (AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, Revit, etc.).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Budgeting, resource allocation, and conflict resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Ph.D. preferred for academic roles).
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., COA, IEI, etc.) is a plus.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Visionary leadership with a focus on innovation and sustainability.
  • Exposure to green building practices and modern construction technologies.
  • Experience in handling multi-disciplinary projects or teams.
