Chinese chef

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Commis 1 Chef specializing in Chinese cuisine to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in Chinese cooking techniques, a passion for Asian flavors, and the ability to support the kitchen brigade in delivering high-quality dishes consistently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of Chinese dishes (e.g. wok, dim sum, stir-fries, soups, rice & noodle dishes).
• Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the senior chefs.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of all food items in accordance with health and safety standards.
• Support Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations and mise en place.
• Work on various kitchen sections as assigned (wok station, steamer, fryer, etc.).
• Monitor food stock levels and report shortages promptly.
• Minimize food wastage and contribute to efficient kitchen operations.
• Comply with all food safety and sanitation guidelines (HACCP standards).
• Work cooperatively with team members and contribute to a positive kitchen environment.

Requirements:

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably with Chinese cuisine.
• Basic knowledge of Chinese cooking techniques (e.g., steaming, stir-frying, wok cooking).
• Culinary diploma or relevant training is an advantage.
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long hours.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in a Chinese restaurant or hotel kitchen setup.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment used in Chinese cooking (e.g., steamers, woks, cleavers).
• Understanding of common Chinese ingredients, spices, and sauces.
