BIW: Sheet Metal Parts, Body Exterior

Job Title:BIW Design & Development Engineer Nature of Role:Responsible for the design, development, and validation of Body-in-White (BIW) components and related systems, with a focus on manufacturability, cost, and regulatory compliance. This includes work on: BIW Parts (Hood, Trunk-lid, Doors, Roof, etc.) Automotive Glass & Sunroof Plastic Trim Parts Mechanisms (Hood Latch, Fuel Lid, Cables) Note: Candidate experience may cover a subset of the components listed. Key Responsibilities (KRAs):Design & development of BIW and related parts using CAD tools (preferably Unigraphics NX). Preparation of 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings. Conduct feasibility studies considering regulations, manufacturability, and vehicle assembly. Collaborate with CAE and testing teams to validate part performance. Address technical issues and implement design countermeasures. Work with suppliers for tooling, mold/die development, and part validation. Manage weight and cost targets of designed components. Maintain documentation and adhere to internal quality and design processes. Desirable Skills:Basic knowledge of sheet metal and plastic part forming, tooling, and joining techniques. Exposure to full vehicle development cycle is an advantage. Project management capability for driving part development timelines. Technical / Functional Competencies:Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics NX preferred). Working knowledge of automotive regulations and compliance requirements. Understanding of manufacturing processes: Sheet Metal, Plastic Molding, Tooling. Capability to manage schedules and deliverables across multiple programs. Behavioral Competencies:Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions. Effective team player with proactive problem-solving skills. Organized, self-driven, and quality-oriented. Coordination with cross-functional teams: Engineering, CAE, Quality, Purchase, etc. Adherence to systems, processes, and design quality standards. Educational Requirements:Essential: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering Desirable: M.Tech in relevant domain with suitable work experience
