Job Description

Role & responsibilities

An Electric Vehicle (EV) Design Engineer creates, refines, and integrates vehicle components like the drivetrain, body, and electronic systems by utilizing CAD/CAE tools for 3D modeling and simulation. Key responsibilities include designing for performance, safety, and regulatory compliance, collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing engineering data, and providing support for prototype builds and testing. Essential skills for this role encompass mechanical or automotive engineering expertise, proficiency with design software, and a thorough understanding of EV systems such as the battery pack, motor, and overall vehicle integration.

Key Responsibilities::

  • Design & Development:

    Conceptualize, design, and document key EV components and systems, from the overall vehicle structure to specific parts like the exterior plastic parts, Battery enclosers, & sheet metal components.
  • CAD/CAE & Simulation:

    Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for 3D modeling, creating technical drawings, and simulating vehicle performance under various conditions.
  • System Integration:

    Ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical systems, focusing on optimized performance and efficient part integration across the vehicle.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

    Work closely with teams in industrial design, product management, manufacturing, and testing to align designs with requirements and facilitate successful product launches.
  • Compliance & Standards:

    Guarantee that product designs adhere to all relevant local, regional, and international safety and regulatory standards for EVs and automotive components.
  • Documentation & Data Management:

    Create and manage engineering Bill of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and release systems, often using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Testing Support:

    Support prototype builds and testing at both bench and vehicle levels, providing technical input to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Expertise ::

  • Engineering Fundamentals:

    Strong background in mechanical or automotive engineering.
  • CAD/CAE Software:

    Proficiency in CREO, industry-standard CAD/CAE tools for 2D and 3D design and simulation.
  • EV System Knowledge:

    Understanding of EV components and sub-systems, including batteries, motors, power electronics, and control systems.
  • DFM/DFA:

    Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
  • GD&T:

    Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for specifying design requirements.
  • PLM Systems:

    Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for managing engineering data and workflows.
  • Problem-Solving:

    Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address technical challenges during the design and development process.
